In commemoration of the Coronation of King Charles III this year, here at Hattons of London we have released an exceptionally rare One Kilo Coin, at the price of £99,000. For the first time, we are giving our audience a look at this incredibly unique coin…
Just three of these kilo coins have been minted, and they have all now been snapped up by eager collectors as the nation celebrates the first coronation in the 21st century. A matte version was also struck, limited to just two worldwide, and these have also now been snapped up.
Measuring 100mm in diameter and 1kg in weight, these kilo coins have been struck in solid 24 carat gold, meaning that each coin has been produced in the highest purity gold possible – an astonishing 99.99% pure! What adds to the uniqueness of these sovereign coins is that they were actually struck on the day of the coronation; 6th May 2023.
To celebrate the coronation of King Charles III, where his wife and new Queen, Camilla, was by his side, this new sovereign series also depicts them together, side-by-side, for the first time in history. Our new King, Charles III, is the ninth monarch to have sovereigns bearing his portrait – but never before has a reigning king appeared with his queen. These are also the first sovereigns upon which Queen Camilla has appeared.
The collection features exclusive portraits by celebrated British coin designer Jody Clark, designer of the fifth (and final) coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse design features the official Coronation Emblem which pays tribute to the four countries of the United Kingdom, bringing together roses, thistles, shamrocks and daffodils into the shape of the St Edward’s Crown.
These new coins mark the incredible moment that Britain crowns a new king and queen – the first time this has happened in over eighty years. These first-of-their-kind coins anchor this moment in history.
