Queen Elizabeth II ‘The Equestrian Portrait’ Silver Crown Set
This year, Her Majesty becomes the first ever British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. During her remarkable reign, her coronation and three of her royal jubilees have been celebrated by introducing crown sized British commemorative coins. What makes these coins so special is that they portray her on horseback rather than the typical side-facing profile. This style of portrait dates back to the very first English silver crown minted for King Edward VI in 1551.
This set includes an original example of all three of the crown-sized commemorative coins for Her Majesty’s jubilees; the 1977 Silver Jubilee, the 2002 Golden Jubilee and the 2022 Platinum Jubilee all in sterling silver proof, as well as the 1953 Coronation in cupronickel Uncirculated. Queen Elizabeth II is the only monarch to produce commemorative crown coins for not only her coronation, but also for all of her major jubilees.
Queen Elizabeth II 2012 Silver Crown
Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Victoria are the only British monarchs ever to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee. This British silver crown is the first to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee, but as a tribute to the only previous Diamond Jubilee, the crown features the same design style as the official 1897 commemorative medal of Queen Victoria.
Featuring a portrait of Her Majesty on both sides, this is a rare double portrait issue. The obverse depicts a contemporary portrait of Her Majesty based on the bas-relief sculpture outside the Supreme Court. The reverse depicts a new interpretation of Her Majesty’s first portrait positioned on a wreath and ribbon, with the legend ‘A VOW MADE GOOD’ inscribed on the edge.
Queen Elizabeth II 2015 Silver Crown
In 2015, Queen Elizabeth II became the longest reigning monarch in British history, thus, a silver crown coin was designed to celebrate this incredible milestone. This is the first time a commemorative coin has been minted for such an occasion.
The reverse depicts a simple design of a crown. The legend ‘One Crown’ is a pun; the coin is a crown, but its face value is on the obverse, so this also refers to the fact that Elizabeth II has been the one crown, or one monarch, for a long time and is now Britain’s longest reigning monarch.
The Queen Elizabeth II 2021 The 95th Birthday Commemorative Silver Set
Many of the important events in Her Majesty’s life and reign have been celebrated by the striking of a crown sized commemorative coin and in 2021, a crown sized commemorative British £5 coin was minted to celebrate her history-making 95th birthday. This set includes the five pound crown in solid sterling silver and also the pure 99.9% silver two ounce version. This silver two ounce is the first time a royal birthday has been celebrated with a British coin in two ounces of pure silver.
Both silver coins in this set feature the superb 95th birthday design, as well as the same inscription created by Timothy Noad. The design depicts The Queen’s royal cypher surrounded by a floral garland, a posy for the Queen on her birthday. This design also features words taken from The Queen’s very first televised Christmas broadcast in 1957, ‘My Heart and My Devotion’, a promise to the British people she has kept ever since.
