Description
The Honorary Chairman of Hattons of London, The Rt. Hon Daniel Finch-Hatton, 17th Earl of Winchilsea and 12th Earl of Nottingham, has named the Britons he feels are among our nation’s most inspiring. Surveying the top 20 names from the BBC Poll from 2002, he has chosen Isaac Newton as one of our nations most inspiring Britons.
The double sovereign coin celebrates Isaac Newton, a pioneering scientist and mathematician whose ground breaking discoveries shaped modern science. Renowned for formulating the laws of motion and universal gravitation, Newton explained how objects move and interact, revolutionising physics. His work in optics revealed the nature of light and colour, while his invention of calculus provided a powerful tool for solving complex problems in mathematics and science. As a key figure of the Scientific Revolution, his legacy continues to inspire innovation and discovery today.
One of our most inspiring figures from our nation’s history has been celebrated on a sovereign coin in 99.9% purity
You know sovereign coins are rarely minted in anything other than 22 carat gold. It takes an event of considerable importance to occasion them being minted in 24 carat purity.
For example, in the last decade there have been sovereign coins minted from 24 carat gold for Queen Elizabeth II’s 95th Birthday in 2021, the bicentenary of Queen Victoria’s birth in 2019. This should give you an idea of how important these events need to be to justify being minted in pure 24 carat gold.
The reason is that the sovereign, as a coin, has historically been minted in 22 carat gold. The step up to 24 carat gold, which is 99.9% purity, needs to be suitably justified.
Authorised by Tristan Da Cunha and approved by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and Buckingham Palace, it is a wonderful commemoration of one of our most inspiring britons.
Benefit from the SELL OUT GUARANTEE
The 2025 Isaac Newton Gold Sovereign is limited to just 239 coins, but this is subject to our new SELL OUT GUARANTEE. What this means is that availability of this coin will end on 30th April 2025. At that time, any coins that are unsold will be melted down and verified to that effect.
At that point, we will issue to owners of this coin a new certificate stating the final mintage which may be lower, or possibly considerably lower, than 239. If the mintage remains at 239 then this means the coins sold out entirely to keen customers, and if not you may have secured for yourself a low mintage rarity.
Either way, there will be little or no surplus of this coin on the secondary market and so the coin you own will be a rarity!
