Description

The world’s first Portrait Sovereigns of Prince William, our future king – a strictly limited release for his 40th birthday

2022 has been an important year for the Royal Family. In the same month as Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, her grandson Prince William, our future king, also celebrated his 40th birthday, meaning multiple commemorations for the Royal House of Windsor.

HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, turned forty on 21st June – a significant milestone in anyone’s life, but perhaps even more so for a future king! To celebrate this landmark moment, a new series of sovereign coins has been produced – and what makes them so special is that they are the first Portrait Sovereigns ever to feature Prince William.

Gold sovereign coins are reserved for events of major significance and these new coins are no exception. In celebration of the prince’s 40th birthday, the first Portrait Sovereigns ever to depict him, have been approved. Frist in line to the British throne, Prince William will, in all likelihood, have gold sovereigns in his own name one day.

For Prince William’s 40th birthday, a world-first, and with increasing significance in the future as well!

As Prince William approached his 40th birthday, his compassion and dedication are evident to all. Passionate about his roles in promoting mental health awareness, conservation and support for the armed forces, he carries out his official duties in support of Queen Elizabeth II with great charm and growing assurance.

Approval has seldom been granted for the use of Prince William’s likeness on coinage. In fact, he has only previously appeared on coins issued for his engagement and wedding, and always alongside the Duchess of Cambridge. This new one-eighth sovereign coin for his 40th birthday is the first time he appears alone, making it his first ever Portrait One-Eighth Sovereign. What a fitting tribute to Prince William on his 40th birthday!

It’s worth considering too, at some time in the future, Prince William will in all likelihood appear on sovereign coins in his own name, as monarch. At that time, these 2022 commemorative gold sovereigns will take on increased significance as the very first Portrait Coins of Prince William, sitting at the very start of his own series.

Authorised by Ascension Island and approved by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace, it is a wonderful tribute – and a world first one at that – first one eighth Portrait Sovereign ever to feature Prince William alone.

There is a limit of one coin per household at this introductory price.

The sale of every coin in this new series benefits armed forces veterans

Like many members of the Royal Family, Prince William maintains strong ties to the British Armed Forces, with whom he served more than seven years full-time, including three years as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot.

The release of these gold coins will support the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Airmen’s and Families Association, known as SSAFA, the armed forces charity, which provides lifelong support for our Forces and their families. 10% of all net profits on sales of these sovereigns will be paid in support of SSAFA. Estimated amount £65,000.
