The reign of Queen Elizabeth II is unique in history: not only was she Britain’s longest reigning monarch, but she was also Britain’s oldest reigning monarch when she died in 2022 aged 96. She had lived so long and been monarch for so long that there were generations who had known no other king or queen!
Through all that time she managed her role as monarch and mother with style, grace and compassion.
The Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II British Coin & Stamp Set of 2022 brings together into one collector’s set the complete set of 2022 Definitive British coinage of her Platinum Jubilee year, the very last of her reign, along with two commemorative coins produced especially to commemorate that event. As events have now transpired, these 2022 Definitive coins are not only the last of her reign, but with new designs appearing in 2023 for King Charles III they are also the very last of their kind.
The two commemorative coins, a crown- sized (38.6mm) five pound face value coin and a seven-sided fifty pence coin, are both one-year only designs produced specifically to mark the Platinum Jubilee.
PLATINUM JUBILEE COMMEMORATIVE COINS
For the 2022 Platinum Jubilee Britain released a celebratory crown-sized £5 coin. The reverse side features a new rendition of the Royal Arms set within the belt of the Order of the Garter, all set on a mantle, royally crowned. Around the base of the shield are the dates 1952 and 2022.
Also in 2022 the regular design fifty pence was joined by a commemorative design coin for the Platinum Jubilee which features a large ‘70’ with the Royal Cypher ‘EIIR’ inside the zero, with the dates 1952 and 2022.
THE EIGHT COMMEMORATIVE STAMPS
In addition there were eight commemorative stamps issued by Royal Mail to mark this historic jubilee. The set featured photographs of The late Queen from different eras, telling the story of her seventy year reign. These too are included in this set.
A SET OF IMPORTANCE
Every one of the coins and stamps is in Uncirculated condition and while each is important in it’s own right, they have added significance when brought together as a set.
These coins and stamps are part of Britain’s history. They tell the story of the first Platinum Jubilee in the history of the British monarchy, an event that has never been seen before, and may well never be seen again.
With the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September of 2022, these coins are now also the very last of this monarch: a lasting reminder of her long and glorious reign.
