Description
The world’s first sovereign coins ever to feature HRH Princess Anne and, in tribute to her work ethic and strength of character, the first ever to be inlaid with titanium!
This year we celebrate the 75th birthday of one of the hardest working and most respected members of the British Royal Family – HRH Princess Anne, The Princess Royal. Known for having one of the busiest working schedules of any member of the Royal Family, Princess Anne has carried out her royal responsibilities with unmatched consistency for more than five decades.
Now, to celebrate Princess Anne’s 75th birthday new gold sovereign coins are being released. You may be surprised to discover that despite being a senior member of the Royal Family, this is the first time ever that The Princess Royal has ever appeared on gold sovereign coins!
Not only that, but in tribute to her formidable work ethic and strength of character, these coins are the first sovereigns ever to have titanium inlaid into their design. Renowned for its strength, titanium adds the symbolism of strength and consistency in tribute to Anne’s personal qualities. What an innovative way to honour her enduring strength and service to Britain!
These new sovereign coins, the first ever to feature Princess Anne and with the addition of inlaid titanium, are the first of their kind in the world. Given The Princess Royal is famously protective of her private life, and has seldom been the subject of commemorative honours, these coins celebrating her 75th birthday are sure to hold high appeal.
- This is the first time The Princess Royal has ever featured on a gold sovereign coin, despite the fact she is a senior member of the Royal Family, and remarkable when you consider just how long she has been working to serve the British people.
- These new sovereign coins have a striking design feature which makes them highly unusual – struck in solid 22 carat gold, the coins have part of the design inlaid with titanium, a metal known for its strength and durability. The use of this metal is a suitable reflection of Princess Anne’s resilience and powerful sense of public duty.
- This year marks The Princess Royal’s 75th birthday. For decades, she has worked tirelessly, often behind the scenes and with quiet determination, avoiding the spotlight unless the cause demands it. Her crucial role in maintaining stability with quiet fortitude deserves to be acknowledged with a lasting tribute on her 75th birthday. It’s conceivable that permission may never again be given for her to appear on sovereign coins meaning this may well be a genuine ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity.
HRH Princess Anne, The Princess Royal – honoured on sovereign coins for the very first time
These new coins mark the 75th birthday of The Princess Royal. Princess Anne’s role in the Royal Family has shown her work ethic and strength of character, forged in a life lived under public scrutiny through which she has managed to maintain independence. Princess Anne has carved a clear and admirable separation between her public responsibilities and her private life, earning the public’s respect through a lifetime of dedication, largely out of the headlines.
As the nation reflects on Princess Anne’s achievements and contributions, these new sovereign coins offer collectors and royal admirers alike the chance to own a first-of-its-kind tribute: the first gold sovereign coins ever to feature Princess Anne!
The portrait is the work of acclaimed artist and coin designer Jody Clark. He would seem to be the natural choice for a portrait of such importance – this is, after all , the first time she has been depicted on gold sovereigns – as he is well known for his effigies of both Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III.
It is, in fact, his portrait of His Majesty The King – Princess Anne’s own dear brother – that adorns the obverse of this coin. In yet another royal portraiture first, never before have a monarch and their sibling appeared on either side of a gold sovereign.
Titanium inlaid into the design gives these coins a second world-first!
The embellishment of gold sovereigns is rarely undertaken – the embellishment needs to be seen to add to the significance of the design and not detract from it – and none before have ever included titanium, one of the world’s strongest metals.
This year, to commemorate the 75th birthday of Anne, The Princess Royal, precisely this has been done!
To honour a royal figure known for her uncompromising strength of character and tireless commitment to duty, this new sovereign coin is inlaid with titanium. As one of the most resilient elements in the world, titanium is widely known for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and resistance to wear. The use of this metal not only reflects Princess Anne’s legendary fortitude, but also creates a coin that is beautiful for its contrast between lustrous 22 carat gold, and the deeper grey tones of ‘industrial’ titanium – and it is this unity between strength and beauty that makes these coins a fitting tribute to a royal figure whose dedication has withstood the test of time.
Authorised by Tristan Da Cunha and approved by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and Buckingham Palace, it is a wonderful commemoration.
