This is a year of great importance as we celebrated the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, the very first in British history. This underlines her remarkable reign, one that saw her become both our Longest Reigning Monarch, and also our Oldest Reigning Monarch. This set brings together two British silver Proof coins that celebrate our Late history-making monarch.
COIN 1: THE TRIBUTE TO OUR LONGEST REIGNING MONARCH
The first coin in this set was issued in 2015 to mark the moment Her Late Majesty became our nation’s longest reigning monarch, surpassing her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria. The design is simple, and features a crown along with the legend ONE CROWN- a subtle play on words that mean, since 1952 we have had just one monarch. Struck in solid 92.5% Sterling silver, the coin also features a celebratory portrait of The Late Queen, and the edge is inscribed LONG TO REIGN OVER US.
COIN 2: CELEBRATING OUR OLDEST REIGNING MONARCH
Queen Elizabeth II is also our oldest reigning monarch, the first in British history ever to celebrate the milestone of a 95th birthday! Part of the celebrations for that birthday was the issue of a pure silver two ounce coin. Minted from two ounces of 99.9% pure silver and with a large 40mm diameter, this is the first silver two ounce for a royal birthday. The superb design by Timothy Noad shows Her Late Majesty’s royal cypher ‘EIIR’ surrounded by a floral garland. The inscription ‘My Heart and My Devotion’, references a promise The Late Queen made in her 1957 Christmas speech – one that she kept ever since. Only 995 of these coins were minted, which means fewer than a thousand people worldwide can own one – and now you may be among them!
