Neil Armstrong’s first step on the Moon in 1969 was one of the greatest moments in the history of mankind. A fifth of the world’s population watched in awe as humans walked on another world for the very first time. It’s hard to think of an event that has captivated the public imagination in the same way in the 50 years since.
In July 2019, the world will mark the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing, and as part of the celebrations an exceptional gold coin has been minted. In tribute to the Apollo 11 mission, the world’s first eleven-sided quarter sovereign has been created.
This was an event of global significance – one of the greatest human ventures of exploration and discovery. Many people today remember where they were, when the pictures were beamed to earth of the first steps on the moon. and so a commemorative sovereign is well and truly deserved.
Never before has a quarter sovereign coin with 11 sides been struck, along with the official Apollo 11 Mission Patch (used with permission of NASA). Authorised by The East Caribbean States and minted in Britain it is a superb tribute to the moon landing.
